:D From Saturday night movies to Saturday night racing, North Central Speedway (NCS) is here. So the following basics may get you ready to see new drivers, new cars, and new fun at NCS this year.
Admission is $10.00 for 18 to 61, $8.00 for 62+ and $1.00 for 12 and under. The pits are $25.00.
Saturday night May 2, the season opener racing starts at 6:45 p.m. other races are every Saturday night starting at 6:45 to about mid-night.
“It should be a fun summer and we will make this a great family place to spend a Saturday night.” said Tim Boeder Track Promoter.
NCS plays host to Pure, Street, Super Stock, Modified and Midwest Modified race cars.
Pure stock is the beginning class for racers at NCS; they have their own set of rules which can be viewed on www.racencs.net. It is also the class which BHS seniors Mason Karlsgot and Kayla Juaire race in.
Street stock is the beginning class for Wissota racing. Midwest modified is the next class up, followed by Super stock and Modified. These rules may also be viewed on www.wissota.org.
Modified and Midwest modified cars are open wheeled. Super stock is a closed wheeled car that has a nose cover.
However, these are not the only classes using the NCS track. Some of the other classes that have raced at NCS are vintage, late models, ice racers, and sprints.
NCS has special events which may or may not be on Saturday. This year’s proposed events are Wednesday, June 17 and July 9; they will be hosting late models.
The main special event is The Mighty Axe Nationals. It is an event to celebrate the race season and drivers compete for a gold-plated axe in the feature event. This season’s, Mighty Axe Nationals are on Sept. 5 and 6. The biggest event NCS has this summer will be our "Thunderslam"
featuring world Famous "Bigfoot" Monster Truck events. The ground shaking,
car crushing mayhem will take place June 26th and 28th. There will also be
a moto-cross stunt team doing backflips and tricks in the infield when the
Monster trucks are not on the track. “You should not attempt any of these stunts at home.” said Cliff Sasker (track owner)
So what can fans expect on race nights? Heat races are the first races of the night. A heat race is to see who qualifies for the feature event.
A feature event is the final race for a class of that night. Each class has a different set amount of laps they have to complete.
For a driver to qualify for a feature event he or she must place within the top five however if there are more cars than usual, this number may be changed. They may also qualify by getting first or second in the consolation race.
A consolation race is for those drivers who do not make the feature event in their heat. There can be as many as six heat races for each class.
So how do racers become track champions? Points are gained by both attendance and racing results of the night.
In the feature, first place gets 35 points, second gets 33 points, and third gets 32, for the full run down go to www.racencs.com. The driver of each class who has most points by the end of the season is proclaimed track champion.
Regarding rules and safety, all drivers must wear a neck restraint, have no mirrors or glass, all doors welded shut, and they must have safety bars or screens so they do not get hit with any of the track.
Drivers may be disqualified and may not drive to safely when they leave to go in the pits; the pits are where drivers have their cars. Race fans may go and get a close look at their favorite car and get an autograph or two from their favorite driver.
Being in the pits can be dangerous because cars are entering and leaving the track.
A Driver may lose his or her points to date if a car is found illegal; and the driver must return his or her money and trophies from that night.
The track officials have the final say in anything that goes on the track.
Track officials put hours upon hours of work to the one-third mile track to make the track ready for a race. Without them there would be no racing so give them your support in keeping tools and car parts off the track.
“NCS also has a new mascot. He is a Blue and White Bull named "Axel". Axel
will be found through out the programs handing out candy, toys, and
t-shirts to the kids and teens in the grandstands.” said Boeder
NCS is located five miles south of the Brainerd/Baxter area on business 371.
For more information go to www.racencs.net or call at 828-1545, you may also e-mail them at info@racencs.net “We look forward to seeing all the new race fans at NCS” said Sasker
“Our new "teen" section on the back stretch
where all teens can hang out for $5 Even if they are not race fans, they
can mingle with pals all summer long without someone telling them to "stop
talking" or "turn off that cell phone" like they would be told at the
movie theater.” said Boeder
The racing season is on its way, so forget the movies and go to the track. :P
